Sandra is a single mum who has been widowed for many years. She speaks fluent English and German and works as an interpreter. She is a clever, self-effacing professional who has been pushed to the margin.

Sandra has shut down emotionally because of her devotion to her ailing elderly father, a former philosophy professor, who has the cruel neurodegenerative disorder which causes a loss of vision and mental faculties in ways which resemble dementia. Sandra must get her father into a nursing home.

While trying to find a suitable facility she meets an old friend walking with his young son in the park.

The mystery of what the heart wants and what it gives in return is the theme of this humane, emphatic film by Hansen- Love. It has a lovely- sad sweetness.
