There is a great opportunity to see the original stage version of The Philadelphia Story in Newcastle before seeing the film. It is playing at DAPA Theatre, 145 Beaumont Street, Hamilton, until Saturday, November 3 – the night before the NFS screening of the film. The film was substantially changed to suit the male stars, especially Cary Grant. I haven’t seen the film for years, and I have always enjoyed it, but seeing The Philadelphia Story on stage last Friday made me even keener to see the film because I enjoyed the play so much. The audience loved it – the laughter was virtually non-stop. It’s a rare opportunity to see the stage and film versions of a classic work in close proximity.
